| Brickman's St. Louis Region appears on HGTV's Change the World |
When a St. Louis team member heard that a local man had won an HGTV make-over to rehab his house for veterans in transition, the St. Louis region mobilized to donate the landscaping.
Hence Forland, a retired veteran himself, opens his home and dedicates his life to rehabilitating veterans, getting them back on their feet and ready to return to everyday life. His home was in desperate need of repairs, so the organization, Rebuilding Together-St. Louis, entered Mr. Forland into HGTVís ìChange the Worldî contest.
When Regional Administrator, Jennifer Heitmann, got in touch with Rebuilding Together-St. Louis to offer our services, they were delighted. They hadnít even considered the landscape since the $40,000 winnings were to go towards making the interior of the home more livable.
Brickman designed and installed a new perennial garden with an ornamental shade tree, replaced a dilapidated tie wall with a new versa-loc wall, and did some tree trimming and general clean up of the property. All materials were donated from local vendors Kirchner Block and Jost Greenhouses.
ìIt was a great cause, project and team working experience,î commented Heitmann. ìWe were overwhelmed with compliments while working on the project. I think we were all caught off guard with all the attention, simply because we love what we do and it didnít seem like work to us.î |
